5 Days 4 Nights Naro Moru Route
Day 1
Transfer in the morning from your hotel to the Naro Moru River Lodge, your base for the trek up Mount Kenya. The remainder of the day will be at leisure and for preparation of your Mount Kenya expedition.
Day 2
At midday, drive to the roadhead of the Naro Moru track from where you will hike up to the Met Station approximately 2 kms distance. – sleeping at an altitude of about 10,000 feet, zero degree latitude Equator. The mountain above 9500 feet forms the Mount Kenya National Park and is a World Heritage Site. Night at Met Station.
Day 3
The hike up into the Teleki Valley to the Mackinder’s Camp. From the Met Station the trek will be through a wide swath of deep bog, and in the event of rain (which is likely), the going will be even slower. The hike today will be 5 to 7 hours. Overnight at Teleki Valley (13,900 ft).
Day 4
An early pre-dawn start is scheduled to ensure a summit bid in time for the majestic summit scenery at dawn. Although not of a technical nature, the hike to the third highest peak of Mount Kenya (Point Lenana at 16,355 ft) is physically strenuous. The track involves approximately a kilometer hike up the valley, crossing several small rock outcrops and a swampy area before starting the scree ascent to Point Lenana. Return to the base camp and proceed down the mountain to the Lodge.
Day 5
After breakfast transfer back to Nairobi or continue on safari.
